The Honda Civic Type R has a storied history of performance and innovation, and the EP3 generation marked a significant chapter in this lineage. Introduced in 2001, the EP3 Type R was the successor to the EK9 andEK4 Type R models. Honda aimed to create a more refined and powerful front-wheel-drive sports car that could not only excel on the track but also serve as a practical daily driver. This marked the first time the Type R badge was applied to a Civic outside of Japan, introducing a wider audience to the world of high-performance Hondas.
Under the hood of the EP3 Type R sat a rev-happy 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine, producing 197 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. This engine was mated to a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission, ensuring that power delivery was both exhilarating and precise. The EP3's impressive power-to-weight ratio made it a joy to drive on twisty roads and racetracks alike. Its sport-tuned suspension and precise steering further enhanced the driving experience.

One of the EP3 Type R's unique selling points was its blend of performance and practicality. While it could tackle the racetrack with gusto, it also provided the comfort and convenience features necessary for daily use. With a roomy interior and comfortable seats, it could easily double as a commuter car during the week and a weekend warrior on the track.
The EP3 Type R's history and attributes make it an excellent candidate for endurance racing. Its robust and rev-happy engine is known for reliability, a crucial factor in long-distance races. The well-tuned suspension and precise steering ensure consistent and predictable handling, even underextended track conditions. Moreover, the car's reputation in motorsport highlights its ability to withstand the rigors of racing, making it a suitable choice for endurance events.
In conclusion, the Honda EP3 Type R is destined for collector status and is fast becoming a modern classic. The engine reliability and easy access (and reasonable budget) for parts makes this our choice as an Endurance racing machine. This is our car to demonstrate our real race pedigree and the basis in which we breath motorsport into all of our Restomods.
